Yuri Chistyakov

Biography

Yuri Georgievich Chistyakov (1931-2001) was a painter and architect from Ulan-Ude, a city east of the Baikal lake in Siberia. He studied at the Moscow Architecture Institute.

Chistyakov was known for his illustrative graphics and designs for monumental architectural sculptures in which he integrated both traditional and avant-garde design. He illustrated works of Pushkin, Blok, Dostoevsky, Chekhov, Cervantes, Apuleius and Bulgakov.

Between 1986 and 1998, he made a series of illustrations for The Master and Margarita.
