Evgeny Shtyrov

Biography

Yevgeny Sergeevich Shtyrov (°1960) was born in Petropavlovsk, in northern Kazakhstan, but when he was four years old, the family moved to Samara, which was then called Kuybyshev. He graduated from the Institute of Industrial Arts in Kharkov, Ukraine. In 1994 he began teaching in his own art school and in 2000 he joined the Creative Union of Artists of Russia.

After his first exhibition - The ecology of the spirit - in Samara in 2001, Yev-geny Shritov got more exhibitions in Russia, the Baltic countries, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and in several cities in France. His main themes are the traditions, rituals and habits of the old Russia.

Yevgeny Shtyrov is known for his watercolors and illustrations for books. He illustrated, for instance, an edition of The golden calf of the Russian writers duo Ilya Ilf and Yevgeny Petrov, and an edition of The Master and Margari-ta. At present, Shtyrov teaches drawing and computer graphics at the Polygraphic Institute in Samara.
